I was working on some techniques last week and found myself doing a gender bender as Raoul from The Phantom of the Opera.

hello,

strange question about stage makeup: if i was to have a mouthful of ben nye's fake blood, or any brand of fake blood, all day long, would it stain my teeth a weird shade of red/pink? the zombie walk is fast approaching but pink teeth are not super awesome when you want to look normal again.

thanks!

Phantom Makeup Videos [May. 15th, 2008|07:46 pm]

Hello all. I thought I'd share the six-part Phantom Makeup video series I shot this week. If anyone needs some insight for creating basic three dimensional effects (homemade prosthetics), check out these tutorials. And since I'm a bit of an attention whore, I had a little fun while I was in costume and makeup, so I shot a few "extra" things as well.

HELP!!!!!!! [May. 11th, 2008|03:44 pm]

Hi guys,

I don't really have time to post any of my makeup pictures right now but I had a question.

I have to create 5 makeups for my final but they need to be inspired by a play and because I don't read many plays I am having the hardest time figuring out what to do. One of the makeups needs to have a prosthetic aspect. So you see my dilemma.

If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. :D

Monsieur Andre Makeup [Oct. 24th, 2007|08:33 pm]

Posting twice in the same day? Unheard of! ;-)

Anyway, I was messing around this evening practicing some highlighting and shadowing, and decided I should make myself up as Monsieur Andre from ALW's The Phantom of the Opera. Huge surprise there, I know. I had to practice making myself up as a man anyway, so this was a good challenge. Here are some pics!

Here are a couple of photos of the new latex prosthetics I created for my Phantom makeup.

Information about the process (and pictures of the various steps) can be found on my webpage.

I also constructed the wig entirely by hand. More info on that is in my blog.

I was talking online with a friend last night, and she managed to talk me into doing Emcee makeup a la Cabaret. It was done around midnight, so the details are very shaky, but I still kind of like it. It's based on Alan Cumming's Emcee. I found pictures of him with red and blackish/purple lips, and my friend decided I should do red...They kind of turned pink because I was using a sparkly Snaz, but oh well.

More pictures here:

I think I'm going to get some metallic red lipstick and try NPH's Emcee tonight, because his eyebrows don't look like dolphins.

Hello again everyone. I thought I'd post some pictures taken this evening with my last go 'round of POTO makeup (when I get around to it, I'll have all new supplies to fool around with instead of the cotton/latex route I'm currently doing). Even so, I think I've got this "budget" makeup thing down pretty well now!

Hello!

My name's Lindsey. I stumbled upon the community after browsing through the CATS makeup board. I won't lie - I know nothing about CATS makeup, but I can certainly appreciate the work done by other musical theatre fans. I'm a Phantom of the Opera girl myself - mostly of the ALW stage show, but I love nearly every other incarnation of the story (2004 movie excluded...best to not get me started on that film ;-). Aside from POTO, I enjoy a number of other shows.

I'm very interested in recreating Phantom's deformities featured in the stage show, and have progressively refined my process over the last year and a half. I've always kept things "on a budget," making the prosthetics from cotton and latex, but this year I'll be stepping up to full on molds, bald caps, wigs...basically everything one sees in the stage show. I'm very excited about the transition, even though my bank account is not.

I have two websites, one is my main site entitled Phantom on a Budget. There you'll find Phantom makeup photos and instructions, costume photos, and some humor. The entire thing's a bit tongue-in-cheek. I also have a new LJ community where friends and I discuss various POTO-related makeup techniques, supplies, etc.

That's it for me. I'll be hanging around this community, as I love to see what other people come up with. :)

Once I get a few more projects complete, I'm planning on some good makeup days.

Until then, here is my face painting gallery:
